  • Title: Bruce S. Kershner Gallery | Fairfield Public Library, Fairfield, CT.
Descriptive info: Bruce S.. Kershner Gallery.. Gallery hours.. : Monday 9-5, Tuesday 9-9, Wednesday 9-5,.. Thursday 9-9,.. Friday 9-6, Saturday 1-5, Sunday 1-5 (Sept - May).. There will be a reception for Reflections/People and Places at the Kershner Gallery in the Fairfield Library on.. Saturday, November 3 at 4:30- 6:30 PM, with a talk by the artists at 5:30 PM.. The show features the paintings of Jane Lubin, Bronislava Slagle, and Lisa Weinblatt.. It can be seen from.. October 28 to December 9.. during library hours.. Westport resident,.. Jane Lubin, M.. D.. , creates acrylic paintings, collages, digitally manipulated photocollages, and assemblages.. For relaxation, she uses polymer clay to make jewelry.. The works in this show are primarily collage, and tend toward a surrealistic style.. As an eye surgeon by training, Dr.. Lubin has always had a fascination with anatomical shapes.. She reorganizes these shapes to create imaginary creatures that still seem to have human characteristics and thus are recognizable.. After retiring from the practice of ophthalmology, Dr.. Lubin obtained a degree in interior design from the New York School of Interior Design; and she has taken numerous art courses at New York University, the Museum of Modern Art, the Whitney Museum of American Art, and the Guggenheim Museum.. In addition to teaching art courses, she presently teaches Anatomy Physiology at Norwalk Community College.. Lubin has shown her work at regional, national and international facilities and in juried and solo exhibitions in Connecticut, New York City, Chicago, Rhode Island, California and Michigan.. As president of the Women's Caucus for Art-Connecticut Chapter, she has curated area group shows.. She is an artist member of the Silvermine Art Guild, and she teaches altered book and collage workshops and classes at Silvermine School of Art.. She has had solo shows of her altered books at the Westport Public Library and at Norwalk Community College Library, and solo art shows at the Westport Arts Center, Fairfield Arts Council, and Norwalk Community College, where her work is in their permanent collection.. She has served as chairperson of the Westport Arts Center solo shows as well as juror of the Westport Downtown Merchants Association Summer Arts Festival.. Jane says of her work: These collages composed of acrylic paint and found images are at once surrealistic and spontaneous.. The spontaneity is important in increasing the work's psychological import, as in dream theory.. I have been influenced by such luminaries as Max Ernst and Hannah Hoch, and I often use (and distort) anatomical images from my medical training.. My creatures inhabit an alternate universe where they play, dance and cavort with one another as if they do not have a care in the world.. Some of the figures address gender issues and androgyny, as well as our societal concepts of beauty.. Others refer to the complicated relationships in our increasingly diverse society.. My work alludes to the diminution of outward sameness, which used to characterize our communities, and an acceptance of individuality and uniqueness.. Wilton resident,..  ...   and whimsical, yet sometimes old fashioned and serious.. My life has always been vibrant, and my palette naturally portrays an energy and cheerfulness.. I do not have time to be bored.. Life has to be lived.. Hairstyles is not only a reflection of who I am and how I feel.. If I stand back and look at the series as a body of work, I realize that I was unconsciously trying to portray any woman.. The hair series represents the transformation that takes place within a woman's soul.. Who she is or wants to be, and how she feels or would like to feel.. Maybe even how she would like to look, if she would have the courage and would not be afraid of being judged.. Bayside, NY resident,.. Lisa Weinblatt.. , is a figurative painter whose imagery is informed through personal experience, imagination and direct observation.. She received her MFA from The School of Visual Arts, NYC.. Her paintings have been exhibited in galleries across the USA, in over 60 museums, 45 colleges and universities and more than 25 public and educational libraries.. She had recent solo exhibitions at the Norfolk Atrium Gallery in VA, The Woodstock Museum of Art in NY, The Morris Graves Museum of Art in Eureka, CA and The Karpeles Manuscript Library Museum in Newburgh, NY.. Lisa teaches art at a private school in Great Neck, NY.. Lisa's award-winning series, School Lunch, shown in this exhibit, is a visual essay of contemporary student life in real educational settings.. It was generated from her drawing on location in the lunchrooms of several New York City High Schools.. She says, It is meant to underline perceptions which affirm cultural identity, bring together ideas espousing contemporary concerns, and encourage a belief in the quality of human spirit.. It has been exhibited at universities and museums throughout the New York metropolitan area; as well as the College Art Association, the San Antonio Museum, the Butler Institute of American Art, Youngstown, OH, the Dishman Museum, Lamar University, TX and the Provincetown Art Museum in New England.. The Chief Curator of the Norman Rockwell Museum, Stephanie H.. Plunkett, comments Weinblatt's ability to transform specific experiences into powerful images which communicate to a broad audience is nothing short of extraordinary.. Coming Soon:.. The public is invited to a reception at the Bruce S.. Kershner Gallery in the Fairfield Library for Made in Bridgeport on.. Saturday, December 15 at 4:30-6:30 pm..
